I recently travelled to Australia and was looking for good, but inexpensive accommodation. I didn't want to stay in a backpackers, but didn't want to spend a fortune on hotels either.
I found gay acommodation at www.gay-taveller.com.au and they had some great accommodation. In fact it was equal to a 5 star hotel. They also have a number of other properties you can stay at. Basically, you stay with the hosts in their own home, sort of like a bed and breakfast. They have all the local knowledge of the city, nightclubs, beaches and great restaurants. I only paid $75.00 a night and it was great value.
The 2 guys I stayed with were so helpful and really nice. If you are looking for a safe, secure and inexpensive place to stay, check them out.
