My Orlando Vacation - Tuesday, February 8, 1994
My Grandfather worked at Sahlens meat plant for a number of years and one year they honored him as 'employee of the month'. One prize that came with this title was a trip to Florida. I went to Orlando along with my grandparents and oldest brother, Brian. We stayed at a Holiday Inn, it was hard to find because the first hotel we went to told us that we had the wrong location, turned out they were wrong. I would definitely recommend choosing a smaller hotel for future visits. The pool was crowded, the restuarant in the hotel was always full, and parking was a frustrating ordeal. We walked to small shops along sidewalks filled with tourists wearing Mickey Mouse merchandise and purchased over-priced souvenirs. But nothing compares to the long torturous lines at Disney Land. We spent three hours inside and my brother and I went on one ride each. The greatest place on earth however, is Marine Land. The beautiful animals and hands-on activities made this place a wonderful afternoon trip. After watching the whale show and having the option of getting soaked through, you can go downstairs where they have an excellent assortment of under water creatures. For example, I had the privledge of feeding a stingwray. We ate at Ponderosa a few nights, they had an awesome buffet at a reasonable price. We had flew USAir, it was my first time flying and they allowed me to sit next to my brother in an empty seat. They also gave me gum to help my ears from the pressure. The meal was great and the flight home was wonderful :)
