Tony & Dave travel to Freeport on the Grand Bahama Island - Wednesday, March 15, 2000
March 9 - 15, 2000
Day 1 - After a crazy day of traveling to Seattle to get my passport and driving back down to Portland, Dave and I depart Portland International Airport at 6:05am. Our flight to the Bahamas will take us down to Dallas/Fortworth, over to Miami, then on to Freeport (on the Grande Bahama Island). A 4 hour layover in Miami gives us a chance to kick it in the famous South Beach of Miami!
Day 2 - Golfing at the Famous Lucayan Country Club!! Just last week Jordon flew down with 9 of his favorite golfing buddies for a frequent game of golf at this beautiful course (golfers included Mark Omeara, Tiger had planned to accompany him, but he got tied up).
Day 3 - A spring break not soon forgotten!! Time to drop our clubs and become beach bums on this fantastic party cruise to a deserted part of the island. The trip included snorkeling on the way, a traditional feast on the island, beach volleyball, and all the music dance & bahama mamas we can possibly take in!!!
Day 4 - Following a dinner party at the Lucayan Country Club last night, we meet up with Gary the head Pro to tour the new Trent Jones Course my uncle is putting in. Gary also shows us the sites for 3 other courses they plan to build in the next couple of years including 2 Nicklaus Courses.
Day 5 - We are off to go Scuba Diving for the very first time! Need I say more? The water in the Bahamas is so clear and beautiful it is amazing. I keep telling Dave they must put dye in the water to get some of these shades of blue. I will be adding all of the underwater shots to this section as soon as they get developed. We saw a 10ft Monterrey, a 14-16ft shark, and tons of amazing fish!
Day 6 - Out to sea we go! In the Bahamas, you can go out nearly a half mile and still the ocean is only 4-10 ft deep. Then it drops to 1,000+ ft immediately. This is where we headed to do some deep sea fishing on Tuesday afternoon. I caught the first fish (a fairly nice looking Barracuda), but I won't bore you with that catch. The catch of the day came nearly 4 hours into our trip when Dave hooked a 4 foot yellow fin rock fish (better know in the Bahamas as a Grouper). Weighing nearly 50+ pounds, this fish was the monster catch of the day.
Day 7 - The sweet sorrow of leaving paradise and returning to the real world. The trip is not over yet, we got the chance to visit my sister in Dallas/Fortworth. Here you will see Dave eating a true Texas Steak...Yummy. We also got the chance to try Fried Alligator, pretty good stuff. As long as I don't have to catch the gator, I don't mind eating it. A great end to a fantastic vacation!
