Portland Oregon - Thursday, October 21, 2004

Spent last weekend at the Red Lion Hotel at the Convention Center in Portland Oregon. I was a tag-along, not being a deligate to the meetings.

The room contained a book on what to do in Portland Oregon. I have lived in Oregon for 34 years but still have not seen it all.

Surprise...I could ride the Max (train ) for free! The buses and the trolley donwtown for free! They have a free zone. For $3.50 you can ride all day anywhere the Max goes.

My friend and I caught the train in front of our hotel and spent the rest of the day exploring Portland. We visited the Saturday market that runs from I think March thru December. Handcrafted goods and a great food court. Live music good or bad, depending on your taste. Took the end of the line to walk to Powells, the largest independant Book store in Oregon. Stopped to shop at at Nordstrums 50- 70% off store downtown and a Ross discount Department store.

The riverwalk on the Willamette ( large park) is right there, next to the Saturday market. There are other things to do and see. Just didn't have the time. The Train goes farther each time I visit. The $3.50 all day pass gets you miles and miles to see the sites and decide where you what to go. Shopping to sight seeing.

Totally comfortable with the other passengers and stops. Not scary in any way. Just a free way to see a city and enjoy.
