Sydney & Around - Tuesday, October 5, 2004

I arrived pretty early in the morning after what must be one of the longest flights possible and tried to stay awake for the whole day so I didn't mess up my sleep patterns too much.

I found the easiest thing to do was leave my bag at the luggage check at the train station, leaving me to make the most of my first day. I just spent my time wandering around Sydney, getting my bearings, taking the obligotary photos of the Opera House and and harbour bridge - I chose not to do the bridge walk - way too scary for the likes of me!

I also booked a trip into the Blue Mountains for the next day. The trip was great - saw lots of kangaroos, went for a nice walk smelling the eucalyptus.

I stayed at the YHA Sydney Central - pretty big hostel that had lots of facilities and was clean and felt nice and secure.

My third and final day in Sydney allowed me some more relaxing trips such as a harbour boat trip (quite windy and cold but worth it). The highlight of the final day was supposed to be a trip to the Opera House for a performance of The Pirates of Penzance - I went back to the Hostel to get changed and have a bit of a rest. I lied down for a 5 minutes and woke up about 2 hours later, well past the start time of the show...oh well...good excuse to go back to Sydney again one day.

Next its onto Cairns and the rainforest!
