Before this chapel construction, inside Quito's colonial downtown, the devotion for this Virgen was so strong that there were three altars for her in the church: the first one was of the black confraternity, the second one, of the Indian confraternity, and the last one, of the Spanish and Creole confraternity. This last one was very interested in the construction of the chapel, and was the most powerful social sector.
